Yesterday’s events…

13 innocent, unique creatures were culled…

This had better be worth it.

The Singularity Core matured early in the morning, and with it, I put an end to my mourning to head off once more and find an end to this task.

It wasn’t long before I found myself, once again, trailing this nomadic messenger.

But… this time… was different.

As if Voidy had been activated to a higher state, he sent me another message; but this time, a coded address… It must be the portals.

Portals.

They have been studied by thousands, yet understood by just a few.

What those thousands lack is an understanding, an understanding that can only be gained from excessive exploration… and a whole lot of luck.

Thanks to this luck and some help from my friends who supplied this mysterious egg, I have that understanding.

The closest known portal was in the Georgia system, several warp points away.

So I left immediately… this system is tainted now.

3 warps in, my long range warning systems sounded.

I was being tracked, they were waiting for me at the next warp point.

I could ready my positron ejector array, but shields would need to be engaged immediately upon entering the system.

Luck still traveled with me. They had misjudged the area of the warp point I would emerge from.

Shields were at full before they even got in range.

It took a single shot from the ejector array. They must have been new.

The Georgia system is home to a number of worlds, but rarely visited.

Primarily a place of pilgrimage by those who still pay homage to mass graves occupied by the Brown-coat forces who were massacred in Serenity Valley.

Some say the lush vegetation that now coats the planet is made up of the soldiers who died.

It covers it well, but evidence of the war still remains, huge gashes on the surface, unable to bear life after so long.

but, nostalgia can wait.

Voidy sent me a coded message, and I’m pretty sure I know what it means.

I use portals rarely, as there must be serious risk, but this feels important, and I’m too far in to stop.

Voidy Tip!

The other side was a contrast to Serenity Valley.

A stormy world.

Life is present in abundance, but the view seems like that of an under saturated image.

Vibrant flourishing life, but suffering from a sickness.

Shortly after arriving, I received a local distress signal, very local, so went over to investigate.

Never has such a place given me the creeps quite like this one…

Inside I found a terminal, covered in some kind of putrid growth, living for certain, but likely no friend of life.

Carefully, I freed the controls, and activated the long unused interface.

To my surprise, I was greeted with a similar AI to those of the ancient Korvax monuments, only from a newer yet less sophisticated interface.

As if it had been found and adapted by a technologically younger race.

The AI treated me as if it was fully aware of my mission so far, and supplied me with a concerning device…. a “Soul Chamber”

Considering what I had already done in my quest, this shouldn’t have surprised me, but souls? what souls? who’s souls?-

Upon sparking the thought, the AI supplied me with some coordinates on the planet, what waits for me there, is concerning.

Voidy Tip!

When searching a planet for a Lat/Long coordinate, it is best practice to first look for the second of the 2 coordinates, in this example (-16, -96) this would be the -96.

For this you should either travel what you perceive to be East or West.

Doing this, leaves the first coordinate (-16) to be refined using the North and South markers, which is far more precise and will not result in you drifting off course and requiring you to redo the other coord.

Lining your starship up and then performing atmosphere jumps to more quickly get around the planet speeds things up immeasurably.

Also, staying very high (just under the line where you cross from the planet into space), will result in far faster flying speeds while still being able to see the Lat/Long of your current position.

A grave, a traveler grave…

I have seen these before, during my exploration, my understanding of portals was gathered from their persisting spirits.

Are these the souls I must gather?

What would happen to them?

I was constructing something… will they live on? be able to explore again if I did this?

Or… were they merely fuel…

I found the second grave on the dark side of the planet.

I was nearly spotted by an unwanted guest.

They really are just everywhere…

Another soul gathered, I hoped I was not losing mine in the process.

I found the final grave amidst a particularly unfriendly storm, the grave itself, oddly pristine.

With the Soul Chamber full, there was no reason at all to remain here

Upon returning through the portal, I checked all of my appendages, and with everything accounted for, went back to my ship.

After exiting the atmosphere and before I’d even had chance to pulse and try to somehow bump into this celestial being; I received a transmission.

“Come to us. Help”

And received navigation instructions to a nearby star system.

This wasn’t the being I’d been meeting with; this was something new, something in need of help.

It didn’t take long to get there, and what was waiting for me was astounding.

A Beautiful life, similar to the one I’d been seeing in the stars, only, old, near it’s end.

It said I could rebirth it, make it whole again, fresh and new.

The parts I had constructed and collected, they are what it needs.

A mind, a heart, a shell, a core… a soul.

As I installed the parts with guidance from it’s telepathic link, it slowly started to gain energy, and become far more lively.

A new companion, to explore further together, made from the souls of long dead travelers, all reborn into a singular consciousness.

Engineered to be the perfect vessel, yet unique…

It was worth it.
